Second of Nine Big Pine Lakes – Sierra Nevada, California, USA – 360 Photo

The largest of nine Big Pine Lakes, Second Lake is located high up on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Western United States, between the Central Valley of California and the Basin and Range Province.

Second Lake is reached by a trail that climbs along the North Fork of Pine Creek river, past a waterfall, along a loop that reaches six of the lakes. Other paths lead to the other three lakes, and to the base of Palisade Glacier.

With a shoreline made of smooth granite cliffs and boulders, Second Lake is perhaps the prettiest and most scenic of the nine glacial lakes.
