Cabo da Roca Lighthouse - Colares, Sintra, Grande Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal - Earth View

Standing 22 metres high, at a focal height of 165 metres above the Atlantic Ocean, the Cabo da Roca Lighthouse marks continental Europe’s most westerly coastal lands.

Located in the civil parish of Colares, in the municipality of Sintra, the Portuguese lighthouse was constructed in 1772. It was the first new purpose-built lighthouse constructed in Portugal, whereas older lighthouses in existence at that time were constructed on existing platforms or from pre-existing beacons.

The rocky coast of Colares of Grande Lisboa in the Region of Lisbon remains a popular area for tourists to explore the lighthouse that gives ways to spectacular panoramic ocean views from this region’s emerald coloured Atlantic.
