It’s renowned for the glitz and glamour, and it’s for very good reason. Make no mistake about it, London is regarded as one of the world’s tourist hotspots, and this is never going to change.
However, rather than making the Big Smoke your only choice for your UK getaway plans, it’s time to think outside the box. Today’s article isn’t going to attempt to denigrate London in any shape or form. It’s a city that is well worthy of a visit regardless of the time of the year.
Instead, it’s all about showing what else is out there, as we now dive into four reasons that you should look to broaden your horizons as you bid to make the most of the UK.
Reason #1 – It’s a city that’s always on the go
There’s no doubt about it, London is a city that is always on the go. It has a vibrant nightlife, has an abundance of things to do during the day, and has some of the best shopping in the world.
However, if you’re looking to take things easy for a change and you want to enjoy some downtime, then London may not be your best choice.
If you’re looking for somewhere that is a little more laid back and has a slower pace of life, you need to look for some more peaceful alternatives. The great thing about the UK is that this doesn’t have to be so-called ‘big city’ alternatives. For example, somewhere like Basingstoke gives you the peace and quiet that you might be craving, but with the option of accessing more vibrant attractions through Hampshire if you desire.
Reason #2 – The cost of things in London borders the ridiculous
Okay, so we’re not just pinpointing the capital city here, but it’s fair to say that prices are higher than average in London.
Whether it’s a pint down at your local pub or whether it’s some street food whilst you’re on a day out, make no mistake about it, you will be paying more for the same things in London compared to other parts of the UK.
Reason #3 – There are greener alternatives throughout the country
If you’re looking for a city with a lot of greenery and surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK, then London is not your best choice.
Whilst there are some parks and green spaces dotted around the capital, it’s fair to say that they don’t come close to the likes of the Peak District, the Lake District, or Snowdonia.
Reason #4 – It’s a city that is very busy
If you’re looking for somewhere that is very busy and has many people around, then London is the place for you.
It’s fair to say that the capital city is one of the most densely populated places in the UK, and it’s not going to be the best choice if you’re looking for somewhere that is a little more laid back. We touched on this in the first point, but let’s not forget that this also means that you can become a victim of traffic. Things can get clogged up at peak hours, and angry car horns mar your so-called relaxing break.
